Chi is well known in the recovery community for his deep commitment and dedication to providing personalized client care. Before founding Grassroots Treatment Center, Chi started a recovery home,also in West Palm Beach, that quickly grew into a sought after program for those seeking a safe and respectful environment. Chi’s guiding principle is to continually strive to create higher recovery success rates across the industry.
Roby graduated from Lynn University with a degree in Business Administration. As a member of the Grassroots team most of Roby’s work is done behind the scenes. However, Roby tries to share his experience of entering recovery in his early 20’s with clients in hopes that they may realize its not too early to stop for good. Additionally, Roby shares his love of the outdoors with clients and believes that the meditative nature of many outdoor activities was absolutely essential to his personal recovery.
Brooke Sandler MS, RD, LD/N
Brooke Sandler is a Registered, Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist. She received her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from Florida State University followed by a Masters Degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from Florida International University. Brooke has a passion for helping people meet their health/nutritional needs through medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education, and nutrition counseling.
Stephen Gumley, MS, CAP, ICADC, RMHCI
With nearly twenty years working in clinical positions in Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol rehabs, from Primary Therapist and Clinical Director to Chief Executive Officer, Stephen’s personal recovery from addiction gives him the insight to best understand the needs of the recovering alcoholic and addict. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management and his Master’s in Counseling Psychology at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He is a Certified Addictions Professional, an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, as well as a state-licensed Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. His understanding and experience relating to clients’ emotional needs and their affinity for being dually-diagnosed, as well as their legal matters, all contribute to his definitive skills as a Clinical Director at Grassroots.
Alexander Kay MSW, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Alexander Kay, MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Florida. He earned his Master’s in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL, clinical program. Alexander has been working in the field of acute mental illness and addiction for the past ten years, specializing in dual diagnoses and crisis stabilization, utilizing various modalities of psycho-therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies (CBT and DBT) in his clinical practice. He has been practicing and teaching Mindfulness Mediation, as a component of DBT, and assisting clients with developing compassion and self-compassion. After serving for over 5 years at the Institute for Mental Health at St. Mary’s Medical Center (psych unit) in a capacity of Intake Specialist, Baker Act Coordinator, Discharge Planner and Mental Health Therapist, Alexander transitioned to Grassroots Treatment to fulfill a role of Primary Therapist. Alexander is extremely passionate about assisting clients on their way to recovery, with compassion and a full body of contemporary research.

Terrance is a West Palm Beach local. Terrance worked his way up the ranks at Grassroots where he began as a house manager. Terrance’s ability to tackle many tasks at once is a huge asset to Grassroots. Additionally, Terrance has an incredible ability to connect with clients. Many alumni state that this was a huge part of their early recovery.

Dr. Eduardo Pena
Dr. Pena is a clinician and an educator. He works as a medical director in substance abuse and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at a local school of medicine. He has been working in the field of psychiatry since 1993 and in addictions since 1996. He is board certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Pena takes a holistic approach to the disease of addiction that includes mainstream medicine as well as psychological and spiritual interventions.
